Herbal Medicines

Herbs are part of almost every treatment plan here. Where acupuncture works from the outside in, herbal formulas work from the inside, supporting your body every day between visits.

Each formula is prescribed for your specific pattern and adjusted as your symptoms change. We use professional-grade granules and capsules that go through rigorous purity and safety testing. [See how our herbs are tested →]

If you’re pregnant, trying to conceive or taking other medications, we factor that into every prescription.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping uses gentle suction to lift the skin and underlying tissue, usually across the back. Cups stay in place for five to fifteen minutes, or glide over the skin with oil to release deeper tension. Most patients find it deeply relaxing, and we often combine it with acupuncture for muscle tension, pain and stress.

Cupping can leave temporary round marks that fade within a few days.

How long before I see results?

Many patients notice something within their first few treatments: feeling calmer, sleeping better, or having less pain. How quickly deeper change follows depends on what we’re treating and how long you’ve been dealing with it.

For chronic and hormonal conditions, most treatment plans run about four months. Many women feel noticeably better somewhere around weeks four to eight, which is usually the midpoint rather than the finish. Completing your plan is what helps those changes hold.

At your first visit, we’ll give you a realistic timeline for your situation.

Do you reuse the needles?

No. Every needle we use is sterile, single-use and disposable. Once your treatment is finished, the needles go straight into a medical sharps container.

Do I have to take herbs?

No, it’s always your choice. That said, we recommend them for most chronic and hormonal conditions, and nearly all of our patients choose to take them. Acupuncture works during your visits, while herbs keep working every day in between, which is often what moves longer-standing problems.

For shorter-term issues, such as a flare of muscle tension, acupuncture alone is often enough.

Herbs come as granules or capsules, so there’s an easy option if you’d rather not taste them. We’ll talk it through at your first visit.

Are herbs safe?

When they’re prescribed by a trained practitioner and sourced from a reputable manufacturer, Chinese herbs have a good safety record. Rebecca is a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine, which means she’s board-certified in Chinese herbal medicine as well as acupuncture.

Before prescribing, we review your health history, any medications or supplements you take, and whether you’re pregnant or trying to conceive, so your formula fits safely alongside everything else.

Side effects are uncommon and usually mild, such as a change in digestion, and we adjust your formula if anything doesn’t agree with you. Our herbs go through rigorous purity and safety testing.

What is a treatment like?

Your first visit is 90 minutes. We go through your health history, your symptoms, your cycle and what you’ve already tried, then talk through what a treatment plan would look like for you. Rebecca will also check your tongue and pulse, traditional diagnostic methods that show which pattern your body is presenting.

The acupuncture itself is gentle. The needles are very thin, most people feel little more than a light tap, and you rest comfortably for about 30 minutes once they’re in place. Depending on your plan, treatment may also include cupping or ear points. Most patients describe it as calming rather than clinical.

You stay clothed for most treatments, so wear something loose that lets us reach your arms and legs. Follow-up visits are shorter than the first.

How often do I need to see my acupuncturist?

Most patients come once a week. For acute or more intense pain, we may start with two visits a week for a short period, then space them out as you improve.

For chronic and hormonal conditions, plans usually run about four months of weekly treatment. After that, most people move to monthly tune-ups as needed. We’ll set out your plan at your first visit so you know what to expect before you commit.

Busy schedule? We offer appointments until 8pm on Tuesdays.
