Acupuncture For Perimenopause and Menopause in Phoenix

It often starts before anyone calls it menopause. Your sleep goes, your cycle becomes unpredictable, your temper is shorter than it used to be, and you’re told you’re too young for this to be what it is. Perimenopause can run for years before your last period.

We use acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and nutrition support for the symptoms that disrupt your days and nights: hot flashes, sleep, mood, energy and pain.

Care is led by Rebecca Burrous, DCM, L.Ac., Dipl. OM, a Doctor of Chinese Medicine with 15 years of experience in women’s health. We work well alongside hormone therapy, and alongside your doctor.

What we Help With:

Hot Flashes and night sweats
Insomnia and waking at 3am
Anxiety, irritability and low mood
Fatigue
Joint and muscle pain
Heavy, irregular or unpredictable periods
Heart palpitations
Vaginal dryness and low libido
Bleeding after menopause is not normal and should always be checked by your doctor

When Sleep is the Problem

Waking at 3am, drenched, and lying there until the alarm goes is one of the most common reasons women come to us at this stage. Broken sleep makes everything else worse: the mood, the fog, the fuse that’s shorter than it used to be.

Treatment works on the night sweats waking you, and on the nervous system that won’t settle once you’re awake. Most women feel a change in their sleep before they notice anything else.

How Treatment Works

Your first visit is 90 minutes. We go through your health history, where you are in the transition, your symptoms and what you’ve already tried, and you’ll leave with a treatment plan.

Menopause isn’t a condition to fix, it’s a transition your body is working through, and treatment is about making that passage easier rather than stopping it. We start where the symptoms are loudest, usually sleep or hot flashes, then work on the underlying depletion that tends to sit beneath them.

Can I have acupuncture if I’m on HRT?
Yes, and many of our patients are. We work alongside hormone therapy rather than in place of it. Never stop or change prescribed treatment without speaking to your doctor.

I’m still getting periods. Is it too early to come in?
No. Perimenopause can start years before your last period, and it’s often when symptoms are hardest to pin down. It’s a good time to start.

How long before I see results?
Most women notice something in the first few treatments, usually in sleep or how they feel in themselves. Hot flashes often take a little longer.
